History

The building at 210 Rittenhouse combines condominiums, hotel rooms, and office space in a single building of the historic center city district. The building opened to guests in 1989, however the site it stands on has a rich history dating back to the completion of Rittenhouse Square in 1913.

A mansion stood on the property at the turn of the 20th century, owned and occupied by A.J. Cassatt - the then president of the Pennsylvania Railroad. When Cassatt sold the property to the Episcopal Church of Pennsylvania, the space transformed into the Church’s headquarters where The Academy of Notre Dame was established.

In the late 1960’s, the currently standing building was designed by architect Donald Reiff. Reiff designed the building to have perfect views of Rittenhouse Square and the city, for as many guests as possible. Construction started in the early 1970s and the building was completed and open in 1989. The hotel stands as one of the most historic hotels in Philadelphia. Updates have been made to the building since, with most recent retrofitting in 2013.

The Rittenhouse Condominiums are located at the cross streets of 19th and Walnut, at 210 West Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, PA   19103. The condominiums are perfectly located in the heart of the city, perfect for walking, with easy access to many attractions and restaurants.

To the west, University City can be seen from the condominiums. To the east, the condominiums overlook Rittenhouse Square, another one of the five original city squares in Philadelphia. The square remains as a spot of transcendence for travelers and locals alike, while surrounded by luxury shopping and fine dining.

Although the condominium remain distinct from the hotel, services—such as room service, maid service, and town car use—are transferrable, and condominium owners may use these services for an additional fee.
